What is sealcoating?

Sealcoating is a layer of coal tar emulsion applied to asphalt pavement. This layer helps to protect against weathering and ultraviolet oxidation while providing a uniform black appearance on the asphalt driveway. Sealcoating should be applied every one to three years depending on how heavily trafficked the area is.
